Today, we’re wrapping our arms around one of the biggest hearts at South Coast Community Caring for Cancer — the incredible Marlene Topper.

Marlene knows cancer from both sides — not just as a volunteer, but as a survivor herself. Having faced breast cancer, she brings a deeply personal perspective to her work. In fact, it was Marlene’s own journey that inspired the creation of our beloved mastectomy pillows — a project stitched with empathy, purpose, and lived experience.

Her love shows up everywhere: delivering care bags, organizing donations, coordinating fabric collections, and keeping our team of sewers connected and supported. She’s the quiet force behind our markets and speaking events, the one managing the details with a kind heart and a steady hand.

Oh, and she keeps Jessica organized — which might be the hardest job of all. From scheduling to bookings, Marlene is the reason we’re not just running, but thriving.

Marlene, your leadership, your story, and your soul-deep generosity make SCCC what it is. We’re so lucky to have you, and so grateful for all the ways you give.
